The centrepiece of the British monarchy's crown jewels is St Edward’s crown. Owing to its historical significance it is considered priceless, and therefore cannot be insured. But by calculating the value of each component part, multiple articles estimates its overall worth at $57,000,000 (£45,000,000) in articles dated April 2023.

The original St Edward’s crown was named after the 11th-century saint-king Edward the Confessor; it was medieval in origin and considered a holy relic. This crown was melted down, or perhaps sold off, following the abolition of the monarchy during the English Civil War (1642–51). The current St Edward’s crown was made to a similar design in 1661, for the coronation of Charles II, though it has undergone some alternations since then. After the inauguration of William III in 1689, however, it was not used again in a coronation until the crowning of George V in 1911.
