The first female NBA in-game head coach is Becky Hammon (USA), taking charge of the San Antonio Spurs (USA), on 30 December 2020.
In 2014, Becky Hammon became the first woman to join a NBA coaching staff. Six years on and following head coach of San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich's second-quarter ejection against the LA Lakers on 30 December 2020, she took full charge for the remainder of the game. Although the Spurs lost the game Hammon saw that 'obviously it's a big deal and a substantial moment'.
