Paced over all or part of the route, the highest average speed was in 1981 with 47.186km/h 29.32mph by Herman van Springel (Belgium) (b. 14 Aug 1943) for 584.5km 363.1 miles in 13hr 35min 18sec. The race is no longer held as an official professional race, but is still held in an amateur capacity.
