The most Overall titles at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships by an individual is six, achieved by two skaters: Yang Yang (China) consecutively in 1997–2002; and Viktor Ahn (Russia, b. South Korea Ahn Hyun-soo) in 2003–07 and 2014.
Yang Yang was known as Yang Yang (A) throughout much of her career, to differentiate her from another speed skater known as Yang Yang (S). Her first Overall title, in 1997, was awarded as a tie with Chun Lee-kyung. Viktor Ahn won five Overall titles representing South Korea before switching allegiance to Russia in time for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
