The most World Judo Championship gold medals won by an individual (male) is 11, achieved by Teddy Riner (France) between 2007 and 2023.

After a five-year absence from the championships, Guadeloupe-born Riner returned to claim his 11th gold on 13 May 2023, defeating Russian Inal Tasoev in the men’s heavyweight final in Doha, Qatar. Riner’s total comprises nine in the +100 kg (heavyweight) division (2007, 2009–11, 2013–15, 2017 and 2023), and two at the Openweight World Championships (2008 and 2017). He is both the youngest and oldest men’s judo world champion.
