The oldest carrier pigeon message is an undelivered note from a Prussian infantry soldier based at Ingersheim (France, previously Germany), thought to be over 100 years old when discovered in September 2020.
The capsule was discovered in a field by a couple who were walking in the region. The message, written in German, details military manoeuvres thought to be from the first world war and is addressed to a superior officer. A date of 16 July can be made out, however the year is not clear and appears to be either 1910 or 1916. The first world war spanned the years 1914 to 1918.
