The most olympic skiing gold medals won in the same event is three and was first achieved by Ulrich Wehling (GDR) in the Nordic combined individual normal hill in 1972, 1976 and 1980; it was equalled by Yelena Valbe and Larisa Lazutina (both Russia) in the women´s cross-country skiing 4 x 5 km relay in 1992, 1994 and 1998 and by Nina Gavrilyuk (Russia) in the same discipline in 1988, 1994 and 1998. Most recently this feat was achieved by Kjetil André Aamodt (Norway) in the Alpine skiing Super-G in 1992, 2002 and 2006. There have been cases of people winning more than 3 skiing medals at the Winter Olympics but it occurred across several events. Nina Gavrilyuk won her first medal skiing for the Soviet Union, Yelena Valbe and Larisa Lazutina for the Unified Team which was formed of six former Soviet Republics (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Armenia).
