The first FIS Alpine World Ski Championships were held in Mürren, Switzerland, in 1931. “Toni” Sailer won all four world championship titles in 1956 (at that year’s Winter Olympics, which also doubled as the world championships): giant slalom, slalom, downhill, and also the non-Olympic Alpine combined title. He went on to claim the downhill, giant slalom and combined in 1958. Hirscher won three slalom world championship titles (2013, 2017 and 2019), one giant slalom (2017), one combined (2015) and two team events (2013 and 2015).
