The most gold medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships by a female is 18, achieved by Marit Bjoergen (Norway) from 2003 to 2017. Her total of 26 overall medals is also a record.
Cross-country skier Bjoergen also won five silver and three bronze medals at the world championships. Her tally of 15 Winter Olympic medals is the most by any athlete, and she also amassed a record 114 cross-country wins at the FIS World Cup.
