The most World Women’s Individual Championship titles is 8, achieved by Nicol David (Malaysia) in 2005–06, 2008–12 and 2014. She saved four successive match balls to defeat Raneem el Weleily for her eight title on 20 December 2014 in Cairo, Egypt.


David spent an unprecedented nine years at World No.1 between 2006–15. She won 81 tour events, five British Open titles, two Commonwealth Games gold medals, five Asian Games gold medals and three World Games gold medals.
