Sadaharu's incredible 22 year career saw him win 11 Japan series titles, including 9 straight between 1965 and 1973. Initially signed as a pitcher he was quickly moved to play first base where he began a career in a position that would see him become a Hall of Famer and arguably the leagues greatest ever player. Not only do Sadaharu's statistics place him above many in the game, but his distinctive 'flamingo leg kick' swing made him instantly recognisable and unique at the plate. Oh retired with 2,786 hits, 2,170 RBIs and a a lifetime batting average of .301 and stayed in the game following his retirement, with his crowning achievement in his managerial career coming in 2006, leading Japan to winning the World Baseball Classic.
