The fastest swim crossing of the English Channel (male) is 6 hours 45 minutes 25 seconds by Andreas Waschburger (Germany), who swam between Shakespeare Beach, Kent, UK, and Cap Gris-Nez, France, on 8 September 2023. The record was ratified by the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation.


The 36-year-old Olympian swimmer was piloted by Michael Oram on board the escort vessel Gallivant. They set out from the UK at 7.02 a.m. and arrived in France at 1.47 p.m.

This surpassed the record of 6 hours 55 minutes set by Trent Grimsey (Australia), also travelling from England to France, on 8 September 2012.
