Eleven men have won three water polo Olympic gold medals: George Wilkinson (UK, 1900, 1908, 1912), Charles Smith (UK, 1908, 1912, 1920), Paul Radmilovic (UK, 1908, 1912, 1920), Dezső Gyarmati (Hungary, 1952, 1956, 1964), György Kárpáti (Hungary, 1952, 1956, 1964), Gergely Kiss (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008), Péter Biros (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008), Tamás Kásás (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008), Tamás Molnár (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008), Tibor Benedek (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008) and Zoltán Szécsi (Hungary, 2000, 2004, 2008). Men's water polo was inaugurated into the Olympics in 1896.
The Hungarian national team have won the title a record nine times.
The women's competition was not introduced until 2000. As of the end of the 2012 Games, no team has won it more than once.
