The most Olympic weightlifting gold medals won is three and was first achieved by Naim Suleymanoglü (Turkey) at the Olympic Games in 1988, 1992 and 1996, it was equalled by Pyrros Dimas (Greece), 1992, 1996 and 2000 and Akakios Kakiasvili (Greece), 1992, 1996 and 2000. Most recently it was matched by Halil Mutlu (Turkey) in 1996, 2000 and 2004.
The golds won by Naim Suleymanoglü at the Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea (1988) and Barcelona, Spain (1992) were in the 60kg weight class, while the gold won at the 1996 games in Atlanta, Georgia, USA was at the 64kg weight class.
Akakios Kakiasvili won 90kg in 1992, -99kg in 1996 and -94kg in 2000. In 1992 he was known as Kakhi Kakhiachbili and he represented EUN/CIS, the Unified team of the former Soviet Republics.
