Hawaiian-born Chad Rowan (b. 8 May 1969), alias Akebono, became the first foreign rikishi to be promoted to the top rank of yokozuna in January 1993. He is the tallest (204cm 6ft 8in) and heaviest (227kg 501lb) yokozuna in sumo history.
