The highest civilian airport is the Daocheng Yading Airport, situated at an elevation of 4,411 metres (14,472 ft), in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan province, China. The airport opened on 16 September 2013.

The opening of the airport cut the journey time between Daocheng and Chengdu to one hour, which previously required a two-day bus trip.
