Maynard Hill, Barrett Foster and David Brown (all USA) flew a piston-engined radio-controlled model called The Spirit of Butts' Farm (TAM-5) a distance of 3,030 km (1,882.7 miles) from Cape Spear, Newfoundland, Canada, to Mannin Beach, Ireland, without refuelling or landing, from 9 to 11 August 2003.
The flight was also the longest ever in terms of duration by a model aircraft. The aircraft is constructed mainly of balsa wood and plastic film, and weighs 1.3 kg (3 lb) without fuel. With fuel, its weight was a shade under 4.9 kg (11 lb). It is powered by a 10 cc four-stroke engine and is 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) long, with a wingspan of 1.82 m (6 ft).
