The oldest industrial climber is Maadyr-ool Khovalyg (Russia, b. 10 August 1947) who is 73 years 41 days old, as verified in Kyzyl, Russia, on 20 September 2020.

Maadyr-ool has 50 years of mountaineering experience and has climbed five of the “Seven Summits”. He is the president of the Alpinism Federation of Tuva and provides climbing training for young people and military professionals.

In 2019, he decided to obtain a new qualification as an industrial climber as a way of staying active and to use his mountaineering skills to help the local community, as there were no local industrial climbers at the time. Since gaining his license he has helped to repair roofs and facades of multi-story buildings in Kyzyl.
