Liverpool Road Station, Manchester, England, is the world's oldest station. It was first used on September 15, 1830 and was finally closed on September 30, 1975. Part of the original station is now a museum.
Liverpool Road Station was the original terminus of the Liverpool and Manchester (L&M) Railway. Its passenger services ended when Manchester Victoria station was connected to L&M on May 5, 1944, and it was used as a goods station until it closed in 1975. After being sold to the Greater Manchester Council for £1 (then US$2.20) it was fully restored and forms part of the Greater Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, which contains railway locomotives from all over the world, including the Beyer Garratt locomotive, one of the largest ever built.
