As ratified by the Marathon Swimmers Federation, Chloë McCardel (Australia) swam from Lighthouse Beach on Eleuthera Island across the Exuma Sound to Nassau in the Bahamas – a distance of 124.4 kilometres (77.3 miles) – on 20–22 October 2014. The total swim duration was 41 hours 21 minutes. Her swim's escort crew was piloted by Ron Knight and Malcolm Goodman.

On 13 October 2021, McCardel completed her 44th English Channel swim crossing (her first was on 21 September 2009) to claim the outright record for most times to swim across the English Channel, from Alison Streeter (UK) who completed 43 crossings between 1982 and 2004.

McCardel attempted the first quadruple crossing of the English Channel in 2017, but had to retire during the third leg. American ultra-swimmer Sarah Thomas went on to achieve the feat on 15–17 September 2019. Cumulatively, Thomas swam a greater distance than McCardel – i.e., 134 km (83.2 mi) – but multi-leg channel crossings are considered a distinct category from marathon ocean swims because in the former swimmers are permitted brief rest breaks on shore between legs.
