The oldest living snake in captivity is Annie (South Africa, b. 1 July 1983) who was 37 years 317 days old as verified on 14 May 2021.


Annie is a green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) from South Africa where she was owned by Paul Swires from 1989 until 2004, when he gave her to Montecasino Bird Gardens in Johannesburg. Paul keeps in regular contact with the park who give him updates on Annie's wellbeing.

Annie is quite a popular resident of the park given her age and size. She weighs over 40 kg and is over 4 metres long. The zoo keepers at the park have said that Annie is a very calm and sweet snake to care for.
