According to the What a Waste 2.0 report, published by the World Bank and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2018, the greatest global annual waste generated is an estimated 2.01 billion tonnes in 2016, based on the latest data available.
The report also states that at least 33% of this waste is not managed in an environmentally safe manner. Worldwide, waste generated per person per day averages 0.74 kg but ranges widely, from 0.11 to 4.54 kg.
