The Badwater Ultramarathon course runs 135 miles (217 km) from Death Valley to Mount Whitney, the lowest and highest points in the contiguous United States. Temperatures can reach around 53°C (127°F). Badwater entrants have started at night since 2015. Paulson finished third overall in her debut Badwater run.
Ashley Paulson won the overall race in 2023, breaking her own women’s record, which she had set the previous year, by almost two and a half hours. It was the second-fastest time ever recorded in the race.
