Tallest bedded Christmas tree

The tallest bedded Christmas tree is 44.70 m (146 ft 7 in) and was achieved by National Trust Cragside (UK) in Rothbury, Northumberland, UK, on 13 November 2025.

The Giant Redwood Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) – an evergreen coniferous tree – was dressed with over 1,000 multi-coloured lights as well as several large bows.

"When it comes to trees, Cragside is the land of giants," said the event organizers, "and decorating the tree celebrates William and Margaret Armstrongs' passion for landscaping on an industrial scale. When the Armstrongs moved to their new home on the edge of Rothbury in 1863, everything looked very different. The House was a modest hunting lodge surrounded by a vast heathery moorland. The Victorian couple transformed the rocky and rugged grounds into fantasy mountain landscape. They planted millions of trees, covered the hillsides in rhododendrons and created engineered lakes to harness the power of water making Cragside the first place in the world to be lit with hydroelectricity. They brought the world to the corner of Northumberland through the specimens they planted, and this north American tree is part of that story.

"This isn’t the first time the grounds have been dressed in lights. In 1884, the Armstrongs covered the grounds in thousands of lanterns to celebrate a visit from the British Royal Family. We like to think that they would appreciate our festive decorating on a big scale over 140 years later. Presenting the World’s Tallest Bedded Christmas tree provides us with an imaginative opportunity to share how we care for this unique landscape and show that there’s much more to Cragside’s great outdoors than first appears."
