The fastest time to climb the “higher 8,000ers” is 70 days, by Nirmal “Nims” Purja (Nepal) during the 2019 climbing season. He topped Kangchenjunga on 15 May, Everest and Lhotse on 22 May, Makalu on 24 May and K2 on 24 Jul.


The five highest 8,000ers are considered significant because the difference in height between the peaks is greatest between the 5th and 6th mountains, with 284 m (931 ft) between Makalu (#5) and Cho Oyu (#6).
