The largest interlocking plastic brick beehive is 0.08 m³ (2.82 ft³), achieved by Ruairi O' Leochain (Ireland), in Athlone, Ireland, 14 May 2020.
The hive has a functional cover, roof and broodbox, as well as a honey super, Queen excluder, movable honeycomb frames and three sufficiently sized entrances/exits for bees.
Ruairi, a school teacher and wildlife activist, had the idea of building a beehive out of plastic bricks for some time, before finally taking on the project during the Covid-19 lockdown in early 2020. He estimates the beehive now houses around 30,000 bees.
