Beyoncé (b. Beyoncé Knowles, USA) increased her lifetime haul of Grammy Awards nominations to 99 when the shortlists for the 67th annual music bash were live-streamed to the world on 8 November 2024. With a female single-year record 11 nods, including Album of the Year for her country/Americana album Cowboy Carter and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Beyoncé surged clear of her husband, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, with whom she had been tied on 88 nominations since November 2022.
In 2023, Beyoncé became the most decorated individual in Grammys history with 32 wins from her (then) 88 nominations, surpassing the 31 trophies (from 74 nominations) won by conductor/musical director Sir Georg Solti in 1963–98.
Her first two nominations were in 2000, for Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills”. Jay-Z won 24 Grammys from his 88 nods in 1999–2022.
“Queen Bey”’s 11 nominations for the 2025 Grammys broke a female-artist tie with Lauryn Hill that had stood since 2010. Michael Jackson (1984) and Babyface (1997), with 12 nominations apiece, still hold the overall single-year record.
Beyoncé’s latest shortlisted works were for: Album of the Year and Best Country Album (Cowboy Carter), Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Song (“Texas Hold ‘Em”), Best Country Solo Performance (“16 Carriages”), Best Country Duo/Group Performance (“II Most Wanted”, feat. Miley Cyrus), Best Americana Performance (“Ya Ya”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Bodyguard”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Levii’s Jeans”, feat. Post Malone) and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Spaghetti”, feat. Linda Martell & Shaboozey).
For a co-writing credit on six Cowboy Carter tracks (and clapping on “Jolene”!), Jay-Z secured his 89th nod at the Grammys in the Album of the Year category, but he now has “99 problems” to contend with if he’s to reclaim the record he once held alone from his wife.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were scheduled to take place at the crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, USA, on 2 February 2025.
