The first person to play in a cricket and rugby world cup in the same year is Rudie Van Vuuren (Namibia) who represented both teams in 2003.


Rudie's main career is actually as a physician. He has personally tended to the Namibian president and is a part-time veterinarian. His wife, Marlice, is a conservationist and together, they run N/a'an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary. Rudie also has the honour of being the first Namibian to take a 5 wicket haul in a one day international in 2003, with figures of 5-43 which saw him claim the the impressive scalps of Nick Knight and Michael Vaughan.
