“Spotlight” (aka “Light Spot” or “Made to Love”) by Xiao Zhan (China) reportedly sold 24.37 million downloads in the 24 hours after it was released on 25 April 2020. The single, performed in Mandarin and English, was Xiao’s response after access to the fan-fiction site Archive of Our Own was blocked in China due to the publication of what was deemed to be explicit content featuring Xiao and a Chinese actor that failed to pass the country’s censorship laws. Loyal fans rallied round Xiao, showing their support for the X-NINE singer by reportedly each “buying an average of 66 copies” of the single. By 4 January 2023, “Spotlight” had sold 54,318,228 digital copies – more than both Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” (c. 50 million physical copies sold since 1942) and Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” (41.5 million digital copies sold in 2017–18).

The vast majority of “Spotlight”'s first-day (21,619,082) and all-time (47,602,544) sales have come from the Tencent Music-owned streaming service QQ Music.
