D'Amelio made it to the top spot on the short-format video platform on 25 March 2020 after just 10 months, having joined the network in summer 2019. Her videos primarily focus on lip-synching and short dance routines.
Aged 15, D'Amelio overtook American singer Loren Gray (now in second place) on 25 March 2020 to become TikTok's most followed star. D'Amelio has also accrued more than 3 billion likes for her video posts to date.
The most followed male as of the same date is magician and special-effects film-maker Zach King (USA), with 41.5 million fans, putting him in third place on the platform overall.
