Pakistan opener Abid Ali hit 112 on his One-Day International (ODI) debut, playing against Australia at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, United Arab Emirates, on 29 March 2019. Ali made his Test debut in a rain-affected match against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan, on 11 December 2019, as Test cricket returned to Pakistan for the first time in over a decade. On the fifth day of the match, he scored 109 not out to become the first man – and only the second cricketer in history after England’s Enid Bakewell in 1968/73 – to reach three figures in both his first Test match and first ODI.
Bakewell scored 113 on her Test debut, against Australia at Adelaide’s Barton Oval on 27 December 1968. She made her ODI debut on 23 June 1973 against an International XI at the World Cup (the second-ever women’s ODI to be played), scoring 101 not out for an England side – captained by women’s cricket pioneer Rachael Heyhoe-Flint – that would go on to win the inaugural tournament.
