“Fancy” by Iggy Azalea (Australia, b. Amethyst Kelly) feat. Charli XCX (UK, b. Charlotte Aitchison) ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks from 7 June 2014. Lizzo’s (USA, b. Melissa Jefferson) “Truth Hurts” took a share of the spoils with six straight weeks at No.1 from 7 September 2019 before returning to the summit for a seventh week on 26 October 2019.

“Fancy” was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards but lost out, respectively, to Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” (Darkchild’s version) and “Say Something” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. The track was taken from Azalea’s debut album The New Classic. “Fancy” had been streamed almost 440 million times on Spotify as of 29 January 2020.

“Truth Hurts” was first released in 2017, but only became a chart-topper after it went viral on the TikTok video-sharing app and was used in the Netflix film Someone Great. The track appeared on the deluxe version of Lizzo’s album Cuz I Love You. On 26 January 2020, the Song of the Year- and Record of the Year-nominated “Truth Hurts” won Lizzo a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)”, with three successive weeks at No.1 from 7 October 2017, is the only other rap track by a lead female artist to register at least three chart-topping weeks on the Hot 100.
