On 8 February 2020, BTS (South Korea) spent their 164th week at the top of Billboard’s Social 50 chart, breaking a tie with Justin Bieber as the act with the most weeks at No.1. The K-pop stars have topped the rankings since 29 July 2017.
As of 8 February 2020, BTS had spent all but nine of their 173 weeks on the chart (since October 2016) at No.1. Other acts with multiple weeks at No.1 include Taylor Swift (28), Miley Cyrus (21) and Rihanna (21). Bieber last topped the tally – his 163rd frame at No.1 – on 22 July 2017.
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular acts on “the world’s leading social networking sites”: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Wikipedia and YouTube. “Artists’ popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers, along with artist page views and weekly song plays.”
