The highest temperature recorded on the continent of Antarctica is 18.3°C (64.9°F) on 6 February 2020, as confirmed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on 14 February 2020. The temperature was logged at Argentina’s Esperanza research station on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

This surpassed the previous record of 17.5°C (63.5°F) logged at the same location on 24 March 2015.

The record for the Antarctic region – i.e., everywhere south of 60°S latitude – is currently 19.8°C (67.6°F), taken at the research station on Signy Island in the South Orkney Islands on 30 January 1982. An even higher reading of 20.75°C, which was reported on 9 February 2020 at an automated permafrost monitoring station (managed by Brazil) on Seymour Island, was subsequently discounted by the WMO.

The highest temperature recorded on the Antarctic plateau – i.e., 2,500 m (8,200 ft) above sea level – is -7°C (19.4°F) at an Automated Weather Station (D-80) located at 70°6'S, 134°53'W inland of the Adélie Coast on 28 December 1989.
