Mariah Carey (USA) has recorded 19 tracks that have hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with a gap of 29 years 153 days between her first and most recent chart-toppers: respectively, “Vision of Love” on 4 August 1990 and “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which spent its third and final week at No.1 on 4 January 2020.

Mariah took the accolade from Cher, whose solo No.1s span 27 years 148 days, from “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” on 6 November 1971 to “Believe”, which spent its final week on top on 3 April 1999. Cher retains the record for the longest gap between No.1 singles at 24 years 355 days (from “Dark Lady” on 23 March 1974 to “Believe”, which climbed to No.1 on 13 March 1999). By comparison, 11 years 267 days separated Mariah’s 18th (“Touch My Body”) and 19th (“All I Want for Christmas Is You”) leaders on the Hot 100 (12 April 2008 to 4 January 2020).

Carey has had more US No.1s than any other solo artist, and is second only to The Beatles (20) for the most chart-toppers overall.
