Roger Federer (Switzerland) reached 10 successive Grand Slam finals, starting with the 2005 Wimbledon showpiece and finishing with the US Open final in 2008. The streak included eight titles (three apiece at Wimbledon and the US Open and two at the Australian Open), with only the 2006 and 2007 French Opens eluding him.

The overall record belongs to Steffi Graf (Germany), who contested 13 consecutive Slam finals between the 1987 and 1990 French Opens. Her run included nine titles. The previous male record was set in 1933–34 by Australia’s Jack Crawford, who reached seven consecutive finals (winning the first three). Crawford’s streak extends to eight finals if his absence at the 1934 US Open is discounted, as the last of his six Grand Slam titles came at the 1935 Australian Open.

Federer would have extended his streak to 19 consecutive finals – up to and including the 2010 Australian Open – had he not lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the 2008 Australian Open.

Federer also holds records for the most consecutive semi-final (23, in 2004–10) and quarter-final (36, in 2004–13) Grand Slam appearances.

As of 8 September 2019, Federer had won 20 Grand Slam titles and appeared in 31 finals, 17 of which were against the other members of the so-called “Big Four” – Rafael Nadal (9), Novak Djokovic (5) or Andy Murray (3).
