Elton John (UK, b. Reginald Dwight) has scored 42 Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, from “Your Song” (No.9) in 1971 to “Hold Me Closer” (feat. Britney Spears; No.4) in 2023.
Elton’s 42 Top 10 hits include his first No.1, “Daniel” (1973), “Candle in the Wind” (1987; feat. the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” (1991; with George Michael), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Circle of Life” (1994; both taken from the Lion King soundtrack) and “Something About the Way You Look Tonight” (1997).
“That’s What Friends Are for”, credited to Dionne [Warwick] & Friends, went to No.1 on 11 January 1986. Elton was one of Dionne’s “Friends”, alongside Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder, but the single is not included in Elton’s tally of 42 Top 10s.
Over half of Elton’s 76 Adult Contemporary entries (as of 3 July 2024) have reached the Top 10, 18 of which have gone all the way to No.1.
