China matched its own record from 1997 with 29 gold medals at the 2019 IWF World Championships, staged on 18–27 September in Pattaya, Thailand. Six Chinese lifters – Li Fabin, Shi Zhiyong, Lü Xiaojun, Deng Wei, Wang Zhouyu and Li Wenwen – won all three golds in their categories (snatch, clean & jerk and total). China’s overall total of 53 medals (with 14 silver and 10 bronze) was also a record.
