“All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey (USA) had spent 49 weeks in the Top 10 of the UK’s Official Singles Chart as of 2 January 2025.
After making its debut at No.5 on 10 December 1994, the festive favourite spent three successive weeks at No.2 behind East 17’s “Stay Another Day” before falling to No.8 and then out of the Top 10. Once downloads (and more recently streaming) contributed towards a song’s chart position, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” returned to the Top 10 in 2007 (for 3 weeks, peaking at No.4); 2016–17 (4 weeks, No.5); 2017–18 (4 weeks, No.2); 2018–19 (4 weeks, No.2); 2019–20 (4 weeks, No.2); 2020–21 (5 weeks, No.1); 2021–22 (5 weeks, No.3); 2022–23 (5 weeks, No.1); 2023–24 (5 weeks, No.2); and 2024–25 (5 weeks, No.2).
“Last Christmas” by Wham! (46 weeks in 1984–2025), “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl) (36 weeks in 1987–2025), “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (20 weeks in 1984–2025) and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee (19 weeks in 1962–2025) have all logged multiple weeks inside the UK’s Top 10 since they were first released.
By comparison, the world’s biggest-selling single of all time, Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”, enjoyed just two Top 10 weeks, both at its peak position of No.5, on the charts dated 24 and 31 December 1977.
