The fastest relay crossing of the Catalina Channel under Catalina Channel Swimming Federation regulations is 6 hours 53 minutes 4 seconds on 7–8 October 2011, achieved by "Long Beach Swim Focus", comprising Parks Wesson, Ted Bramble, Hank Wise, Lyle Nalli, Matty Mitchell and Lexie Kelly, with pace swimmer/back-up swimmer Samantha Sears (all USA). They swam from mainland California to Santa Catalina Island – a distance of 32.2 kilometres (20 miles).
The relay started at around 20:20 on 7 October 2011 at Point Vicente on the California coast and arrived at Doctor's Cove on Catalina Island a little after 3:00 the following day.
The first leg of the swim was completed by Hank Wise, who also holds the record for most swims of the Catalina Channel by an individual: 7 as of 14 October 2018.
