Rock band twenty one pilots (USA) were the first act to earn at least a gold award (for certified sales of 500,000 units) from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for every track on two different studio albums, namely Vessel (2013) and Blurryface (2015).

Vessel, the duo’s third studio album, incredibly failed to produce a Hot 100 single in their homeland. The 12-track set features songs such as “Holding on to You”, “House of Gold” and the 2x multi-platinum (2 million units sold) “Car Radio”. Album closer “Truce” was the final track to reach the RIAA’s gold threshold and, in turn, set the unprecedented two-album record in July 2019.

twenty one pilots’ fourth studio effort, Blurryface, produced the US Top 5 hits “Stressed Out” (7x multi-platinum) and “Ride” (5x multi-platinum), as well as “Tear in My Heart” and “Fairly Local”, their debut Hot 100 entry. The album features 14 tracks in total, all of which were RIAA-certified by 1 March 2018, making it the first album in the digital era to achieve the honour. The gold award for “Hometown” set the record.

The duo had RIAA-certified US album sales of 6.5 million units as of July 2019, with Blurryface (4x multi-platinum) and Vessel (2x multi-platinum) joined on the honours board by fifth studio album Trench (2018), their third successive album for Fueled by Ramen, which was certified gold on 18 December 2018.

twenty one pilots are founder member vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Tyler Joseph and drummer/percussionist Josh Dun (2011-present). The group was formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 2009 as a three-piece (with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih).
