Kristýna, ranked 112, prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 against number three seed Karolína, a former world No.1.
The twins were born in Louny, Czech Republic, on 21 March 1992. They both turned pro in 2009. Kristýna plays left-handed; Karolína is a right-hander.
The once-regular doubles partners have now met 10 times in singles competition, including two ITF (International Tennis Federation) finals, with five wins apiece. Their only previous meeting at a WTA event came in qualifying for the Birmingham Classic in 2013, when Kristýna advanced to the main draw.
Kristýna holds the record for the most aces served in a WTA match – 31, during a second-round match at the 2016 Australian Open.
