The most people drawing thangkas simultaneously is 1,005 people and was achieved by Tongren County People's Government (China) in Huangnan, Qinghai, China, on 28 July 2019

It took nearly 5 hours to check all the thangkas displayed in the exhibition hall. During that time, over 1,000 thangka painters were attempting the record on the square outside.

Tongren County, known to Tibetans as Rebgong in the historic region of Amdo is the capital and second smallest administrative subdivision by area within Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai, China. 75% of the population in the county is Tibetan.

The county is known as a center of thangka painting. There were lots of thangka painting studios and galleries in the county and Rebgong arts were named on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in 2009.
