BLACKPINK singer/rapper Lisa (Thailand, b. Pranpriya Manobal) released her debut solo single “LALISA” on 10 September 2021. The accompanying video, uploaded to YouTube on the same day, was viewed 73.6 million times in the first 24 hours. This smashed the previous record for a solo artist, set when Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next” racked up 55.4 million views on 30 November 2018.

Female singers Selena Gomez (79 million on 28 August 2020 for “Ice Cream”), Halsey (74.6 million on 12 April 2019 for “Boy with Luv”) and Taylor Swift (65.2 million on 26 April 2019 for “ME!”) have all accumulated multi-million 24-hour viewing figures on YouTube, but each has done so with help from another act (respectively, BLACKPINK, BTS and Brendon Urie), which means they are not classed as solo artists in this category.

Viewing figures for YouTube music videos in their first 24 hours of availability have sky-rocketed since Nicki Minaj, and then Rihanna, set new benchmarks with, respectively, “Stupid Hoe” (4.8 million on 20 January 2012) and “Where Have You Been” (4.9 million on 30 April 2012).

As of 13 April 2022, “LALISA” had been viewed 462.5 million times on YouTube, with 15 million likes.
