Game of Thrones (HBO, USA; 2011-19) was the most popular TV show in the world based on a book adaptation in 2021-22, according to data-science firm Parrot Analytics, with a global demand rating 73.1 greater than that of the average TV show. Inspired by George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novels, the show premiered in 2011. Over the course of eight seasons (the last of which originally aired on 14 April 2019), the series explores the dynastic power struggles played out in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and on the continent of Essos.


As of March 2022, the series is also the most in-demand drama TV series.The data for this record covers the period 1 January 2021 to 21 February 2022.
