He might have been sneaking since 2002, but it took Sam Fisher 16 years to make his first cameo appearance in a game outside of the Splinter Cell franchise. On 10 April 2018, Ubisoft plunged Sam Fisher into Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands (Ubisoft, 2017) in a downloadable mission entitled “Special Operation 1: Splinter Cell”. In a cutscene within the mission, Fishers says: “I’ve heard they don’t make them like me anymore. There was this other guy, though. Army Infiltration. He wore a bandana or something,” making oblique reference to Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake and the fact that stealth games are no longer as popular as they once were.
