Fastest hat-trick of UK No.1 singles by a female artist

Ariana Grande (USA, b. Ariana Grande-Butera) secured three No.1s on the UK Official Singles Chart in just 98 days. “Thank U, Next” (15 November 2018) was followed to No.1 by “7 Rings” (31 January 2019) and “Break up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” (21 February 2019).

Sabrina Carpenter has come the closest to stealing Grande’s crown, with three UK No.1 singles in 119 days in 2024: “Espresso” on 9 May, “Please Please Please” on 27 June and “Taste” on 5 September.

Chart spans are calculated from a track’s first week at No.1, not its most recent. If the latter rule was applied, Carpenter (three No.1s in 49 days, from 18 July to 5 September 2024) would take the title from Grande (three No.1s in 63 days, from 20 December 2018 to 21 February 2019).

Five male singers – Elvis Presley (21 days in 2005), John Lennon (49 days in 1980-81), Elton John (70 days in 2021), Justin Bieber (91 days in 2015) and Ed Sheeran (98 days in 2021) – have matched or bettered Grande’s 98-day female record.
