Traditionally, most superhero videogames have licensed their key stars from the companies that own them, but this was not always the case. When Superman, the first superhero videogame, hit stores back in 1978 both DC comics, which owned the rights to the character, and Atari, the company that published the title, were owned by the same company, Time Warner.
