The first winner of the Women’s Ballon D’Or (or Ballon d’Or Féminin) is Ada Hegerberg (Norway), and was achieved on 3 December 2018.
Hegerberg, who plays for French side Lyon, finished as top scorer in both the French League (31 goals) and the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League (a record 15 goals). She beat Pernille Harder and Dzsenifer Maroszan Into second and third place respectively.
The Ballon d'Or is an annual football award presented by France Football designed to honour the best player of the previous year. It has been awarded to male players since 1956, with 2018 marking the inaugural women’s award.
