Singer-songwriter-actor Lady Gaga, aka Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (USA), was nominated twice in 2019 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Best Actress for her role as the nightclub singer Ally Maine in the remake of A Star is Born (USA, 2018) and also Best New Song for "Shallow," which she wrote for the same movie with Mark Ronson and performed with co-star Bradley Cooper.

This marks only the second time that a Best New Song nominee was also acknowledged in an acting category in the same year, the first being Mary J. Blige, who was nominated in 2018 for Best Supporting Actress for Mudbound and Best New Song for "Mighty River", written for the movie.
